La Fortaleza was built from 1532 to 1540, after
Spain realized that they needed to defend the San Juan Bay from foreign
attacks. It was the first defensive fortification built in San Juan. It
consists of few buildings in which the governor lives. The second floor is
consisted of living quarters and the third floor is consisted of private
offices.
