It is a small stone fort in the entrance to the Condado Lagoon, that was built to defend San Juan from invaders. It was important because it showed part of San Juan's history, how the Spaniards were determined to defend San Juan from invaders, and because it emphasized the fact that Puerto Rico was a military colony.
